Overview

This two-hour paddle with Canoe & Kayak Adventures starts and finishes at Browns Bay. You meet your guide in front of the Browns Bay Boating Club, near the boat ramp and changing rooms, get fitted with all kayaking and safety gear, and receive full instruction before you head out. The tour uses stable sea kayaks or sit-on-top kayaks, and most travellers can participate.

The route covers two stops. Roughly an hour goes to Waiake Beach Reserve, then about 30 minutes at Browns Bay Beach, where the paddle passes by the Browns Bay Brewing Company. Food and drinks are not included, and a restaurant booking there is optional and arranged separately.

A complimentary shuttle service is included. The group runs to a maximum of 24 travellers, and most travellers can participate. The tour is not recommended for travellers with back problems or pregnant travellers, and it is not wheelchair accessible. The tour ends back at the meeting point, with public parking nearby and changing rooms beside the boat ramp.

What To Expect From The Tour

A few practical points will shape how the tour goes, especially around clothing, weather and group size.

Two kayak paddles leaning against a wooden rack on pale sand, wet footprints leading to the water, boating club deck blurred behind.
  • Expect to get wet. Kayaking is a wet sport, and splashes are part of it. Bring a towel, quick-drying clothing, suitable footwear, and a change of clothes for after the tour.
  • Stable kayaks. The tour uses stable sea kayaks or sit-on-top kayaks, and guides give full instruction before you launch. Most travellers can participate, and prior experience is not stated as a requirement.
  • Group size. The tour caps at 24 travellers, so it can feel like a proper group rather than a private outing.
  • Food is extra. Meals and drinks are not included. The Browns Bay Brewing Company is passed by on the water, and a restaurant booking there is optional and arranged on your own.
  • Getting there. A complimentary shuttle service is included. There is also public parking nearby and at 25 Manly Esplanade, and the site notes Uber, taxi or the AT Journey Planner work for reaching the meeting point.
  • Weather matters. The experience requires good weather, and poor conditions can cancel it. In that case you are offered a different date or a full refund.

Common issues. The tour is not wheelchair accessible and is not recommended for travellers with back problems or pregnant travellers; the tour also rules out anyone with heart problems or other serious medical conditions. Weather can force a cancellation, and the tour also needs a minimum number of travellers to run, so it can be called off if that minimum is not met, though you would be offered a different date or experience or a full refund. Food and drinks cost extra, and the brewery stop is a pass-by rather than a sit-down stop. Refunds require cancelling at least 24 hours before the start time.
